Carlson, Rand

After growing up in the San Francisco bay area in California, he came to Arizona in 1971. Cartooning and graphic design were early artistic experiences for the immigrant to the Sonoran Desert. After graduating from University of Arizona, Rand began his career with newspaper and magazines as an art director and illustrator. In 1987 he started freelancing exclusively and began Random Arts. His work appears in primarily alternative weeklies across the U.S., and in magazines, as both a designer and illustrator.He paints outdoors more than randomly.
