Dalkin, Monika
Not a day goes by that I don’t feel inspired by some form in nature, an architectural element, a phrase during a conversation or some part of daily life, and develop it into a piece of art. I enjoy working in a variety of mediums and try not to take myself too seriously. My work is such a joy for me, so I try to be uplifting and hopeful even when the idea is more serious. My work is very much about process. The process is that of an action that occurs and a response that follows. I use techniques that may go awry to my advantage in further developing and enriching the end product. I try not to fixate on a perceived end result.
Monika Dalkin was born in the United States, but lived for many years overseas. Although she always enjoyed and appreciated art, it was not always a first priority. Raising her two daughters together with her husband, and full time employment took precedence over creativity. When the opportunity arose, Monika returned to University for a second degree, MFA 2004 in Printmaking, then began to pursue a career in art. She resides in Tucson, Arizona.
