Pfeifer, Hilary
Wall Sculptures by Hilary Pfeifer can be mounted above doors, installed in small places and are perfect for those visual surprises.
My work is inspired by psychology and the constant human quest to understand and define what hidden elements make us who we are.I’m always intrigued by gray areas-the places where you cannot easily see “wrong” or “right.”These complexities interest me more than the easy answers. My work is a visual exploration of these kinds of complexities that make life so rich.
My sculptures are made of wood, look like clay, and embody many of the technical and scale concerns of metelsmithing-the three areas of focus in my arts education.I consider my work to bridge the gap between fine art and fine craft.I feel loyal to my craft background for many reasons, in particular its focus on not just making things, but making them well.
I shape and carve my sculptures from wood, paint them with a rubberized paint, and often add found objects to the surface.Parts of many sculptures are then flocked to add texture.
