Emerge
"Emerge" – Artwork by recent WOU Graduates
September 6 – 30, 2011 | Art Reception September 7th, 5-7pm
Each spring hundreds of aspiring artists and designers graduate from Oregon universities. Due to many circumstances, only the most motivated graduates go on to create exciting and innovative artwork worthy of a professional gallery setting. In Emerge, the September show at the Mary Lou Zeek Gallery, the work of five such graduates from Western Oregon University is showcased. All five graduated with a Bachelor’s degree or a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree within the last four years.
Between the five artists, they explore various subjects such as the fragility and strength found in organic and man-made structures; the real and metaphorical distance in human relationships; the power of memory and nostalgia; and the reimagination of a cultural aesthetic. They explore these topics through porcelain, paint, mixed-media, photo-transfer and prints.
Rebecca Cook: Porcelain Sculptures
Jennifer Gimzewski: Paintings
Arianna Ninneman: Mixed-Media Prints
Christian Rogers: Photo-Transfer and Collage works on Paper
