Layered
Doug Dacar
In my new work I continue to experiment and push the mediums I work with. Whether it be clay, wax, oil or a photo my whole process is a dance between the predictability and the possibilities. I have found through years of working the more information I have about the material the harder it is to be spontaneous and push the limits. Ironically, I think this is when some of my best work is done. So with this new show I will use my library of material knowledge along with my ever desire to break the'' art rules''. While I stay true to my process of raw texture, some ambiguity, rich surfaces and at times randomness. My work is a dichotomy. I want control and predictability, yet need some chaos and unpredictability . The new works are a reflection of my life surroundings, history, family and my crazy imagination. When I work the process is so important I feel as though I must apply layers and then take away and repeat until I have the desired emotion and effect. I love and hate the joy or disappointment in this process, but it is my process.
Dacar’s show will be open April 5 - 30th, 2011
