100 Artists: Nourish & S…
Group Show
February 1 – 27, 2010 | Benefitting the Marion-Polk Food Share
For the 7th consecutive year, during the month of February, the Mary Lou Zeek Gallery presents the 100 Artists Show.
100 Artists agreed to a challenge to participate in our show to raise awareness and funds for the Marion-Polk Food Share. Each artist was mailed a simple food can, unpackaged, nothing inside except two beans and a small tag with the name of the show "Nourish and Sustain". Each can was sent “as is”, and was not packaged or boxed, but rather processed directly by the postal service firsthand. For the majority of the pieces the stamps and addresses on the cans remain a part of the artwork for identification and for evidence of the actual mailing.
Beginning with this humble object, each artist was asked to create with no restraints, just explore possibilities. During this month the artists present their own ideas of what it is to "Nourish and Sustain" while creating these striking and inspiring art pieces. Each piece is available to purchase via a silent auction.

Marion-Polk Food Share
“Leading the fight to end hunger in Marion and Polk counties… because no one should be hungry.”
Marion-Polk Food Share serves the emergency food needs of Marion and Polk counties – an area that covers 1,945 square miles, with a population of 362,000 – and touches the lives of almost 70,000 individuals each year, nearly half of them children. That’s about 18 percent of the two-county population.
Marion-Polk Food Share – supported by thousands of volunteers and donors – collects, sorts, stores and distributes over 4.8 million pounds of food annually to a network of 80 local service providers who distribute food to hungry people in their neighborhoods.
Throughout our 20-year history, the mission of Marion-Polk Food Share has been constant … no one should be hungry.
