The Letter

The Mary Lou Zeek Gallery opened the 2012 New Year with a group exhibit curated by Robert Bibler.

Letter: 1. a communication in writing or printing addressed to a person or a number of persons. 2. One of the marks or signs conventionally used in writing and printing to represent speech sounds; an alphabetic character. 3. A printing type bearing such a mark or character. 4. A particular style of type. 5. Such types collectively. 6. Actual terms or wording, as distinct from general meaning or intent.

Each artist was asked to address the theme of “The Letter”; correspondence to printing, including but not limited to mail messages, notes, handwriting, commentary, footnotes, style of type and or letterforms. This exhibit is intended to evoke a more traditional form of communication and an awareness of written or printed form rather than the pervasive and utilitarian electronic mail message.
